Q. The purchase of your car is important to us, and with our extensive model range and alternative funding methods every vehicle purchase is different. However we have identified a number of frequently asked questions, which we have detailed below.
Question 1, How do I pay for my car?
If we arrange the financing of your car then you need not worry. We will take care of payment internally. We require cleared funds before you can collect your car. If you intend to pay by bankers or building society draft, personal or company cheque or Credit Card then please allow 5 working days for clearance through our bank, For Switch/Debit cards please allow 2 working Days. For your security our bank require you to be present when paying a balance by Card. It is always safer to ask your bank to telegraphically transfer (T.T.) the balance the day before collection of your car. Our company bank details are as follows:-
The Royal Bank of Scotland
36 St Andrews square
Edinburgh
EH2 2YB
Sort Code: - 830608 Account Number: - 10573117
Please note: - your bank may charge you for drafts or T.T. facility.
If you have arranged your own financing, as mentioned previously, we require cleared funds before you collect your car. All cheques and drafts should be made payable to Western Motor Company Ltd.
Payment by credit card
We accept balances on credit cards up to £2000.00 without charge, thereafter we reserve the right to pass on to you any charges levied by credit card issuers, which in some cases can be as much as 7% of the transaction.
Cash
We have de-registered as a “High Value Dealer” (HVD) for money laundering purposes because we no longer accept payments in cash of 15,000 euros (£10,000 equivalent) or more. This limit applies to all receipts from a single customer i.e. we cannot accept four payments of £10,000.
All finance companies (and the DVLA for cherished transfers) require proof of address/identification, specifically this means there must be mandatory production of a full driving licence or photo card driving licence with, or a provisional driving licence with photo card, in every case bearing the customer’s current address. All photo cards must be accompanied by their relevant counterpart. Where the driving licence does not bear the customer’s current address, additional proof of current permanent address will be required.
The driving licence must be supported by at least one of the following:
a current cheque guarantee card;
a current credit card;
An employer’s security pass incorporating a photograph.
Where the driving licence does not bear the customer’s current address, two additional proof of current permanent address will be required.
Acceptable proofs that may be considered:
a current valid passport;
a current bank statement (original not copy);
a Community Tax or Utility Bill from the latest billing period;
self-employed - copy accounts or Embossed V.A.T Registration certificate;
Self -employed in the construction industry - tax exemption certificate with photograph of holder.
It is company policy that no vehicle may be released without providing this required documentation.
Question 2, How do you tax my car?
In the case of a new car we use the A.F.R.L. (Automated First Road Licence) system. This is a system that is linked directly to the DVLA, it allows us to tax cars with their first registration number.
Question 2a, I have just purchased a personal plate from the DVLA (Select)
If you have purchased a cherished number plate on an entitlement certificate then we can tax your car in the name on the certificate. All other cases still require to be sent to DVLA registration office which can take up to 10 days, and being a Government Department, we have no leeway and cannot exert pressure to get a speedy turnaround.
Question 2b, I have a personal plate on my current car can you transfer it for me?
YES! However, the Government have recently made many changes to the way transfers are conducted. We can administer the paperwork for you. We require a cheque of £174.00 in the case of a transfer or £105.00 in the case of a retention. Cheques should be made payable to Western Motor Company. Please note that we cannot be held responsible for any delays in delivery due to your cherished transfer. What we will need is your I.D. as detailed above, a current MOT Certificate (if applicable) and the V5c (log book) for your car bearing the registration you wish to transfer. An original cover note (if applicable) or insurance certificate dated on or before the date you hand us the documents. Please leave plenty of time to action any transfers.
Question 3, Insurance! Insurance!
Unfortunately, insurance companies cause more upset to our customers than any other variable. The main reason is they still believe that a fax or copy will do, when in fact it won’t. The DVLA require to see an original document before taxing can take place, audits are frequent and fines are heavy for garages not following the procedures. Please speak to your insurance company early and let them know your plans, you may need to cover both cars at the same time, again your insurance company may charge you for this facility.
Question 4, I have a part exchange!
On collection of your new car we will need you to bring with you:-
V5c Document (log book) new legislation requires us to have this document with your car. New regulations require YOU to sign and send the V5C/3 (yellow) or the V5/3 which notifies the DVLA of the sale or transfer of ownership. If you do not sign and send this back you will be liable for fines!
If you cannot find it, please request a duplicate now. (DVLA will charge you for this)
Current MOT (if applicable)
Service Book
Document Pack (drivers manual etc)
Spare Keys
Radio Codes
Warranty Books etc.
We intend to deliver complete satisfaction in everything we do and if any of your questions are not answered above then please contact your salesperson for clarification.
